Winder Systems

Strapping Winders

We can manufacture new dancer-controlled winders custom built for your application, or refurbish your existing outdated winders and install new Allen-Bradley PLC Controls. Our winder systems can operate with regular traverse winding, points winding or cross-spooling.

Web Winders

We can retrofit your outdated web winder/unwind control systems with new drives and PLC systems, including DC to AC motor conversion if preferred. We have completed installations utilizing up to 13 drives including dual turret winder and unwind stands, using Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC and multiple Panelviews for controls, although we can use the brand of drives and controls of your choice.

We can provide drive and PLC systems for pump stations and other applications in municipal water and wastewater facilities.


Case Packing Solutions.

We can build custom robotic case packing systems, using standard 6 axis or delta robots. We installed a complete robotic work cell for one customer who was previously hand packing Italian ice cartons, and they subsequently achieved their highest ever production figures. This system used an ABB IRB120 robot with custom built tooling and various actuators and conveyors for aligning and feeding product from the packing line.

Palletizing Solutions

Safety concerns and staffing problems are some of the reasons given for contracting AFI Systems to engineer and build robotic palletizing systems. One project involved using sensors mounted to the robotic tooling to determine which of three box sizes were being picked from 2 conveyors, and then based on the determination made, the box was placed on a pallet on one of three stretch wrappers. This unique system had no safety cage, but instead used Keyence laser safety scanners to protect the whole work cell.

Extrusion Controls

We can upgrade your control systems encompassing every area of your extrusion line: Blender/Mixer controls, Extruder, Screen Changer, Spin Pumps, Godets, Stretch Ovens, Embossers, Slitters, Flying Shears, Winders, Palletizers. If you can think of it, we have probably designed a custom PLC or drive control system for it.


We have retrofitted controls for beamers, slashers, spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing and inspection. Our proprietary 'Firefly' hot wire selvedge cutter/slitter incorporates the latest technology for weaving applications
